Authentikk project promotes the connection of the two (2) communities Korca and Kastoria through the beautiful nature and the imposing Mountain volumes of Morava from Albania border area and the Mountain volume of Grammos when it comes to Greece. Both project areas could support the idea of 12 month tourism giving different perspectives and alternatives for each season.
At the winter time, skiing is one alternative that most of the visitors outside Greece and Albania could not even imagine! Yes, Greece and especially north Greece offers plenty of organized skiing centers where someone could enjoy her lovely activity.
Skiing with the view of Kastoria at Vitsi Ski Center is our proposal when it comes to Kastoria. A pleasant surprise awaits skiing fans on Mount Vitsi (Verno). In a short distance from the city of Kastoria (just 22 km), the smallest ski resort of the Region of Western Macedonia operates at an altitude of 1800 meters.
The ski resort does not have the facilities, size and organization of the other well-known ski resorts in Greece, and also does not operate all week. But what visitors to this little gem of Kastoria will love is the warm hospitality and a calm, we would say “family” environment, as it is operated by personal volunteer work of members of the Ski Mountaineering Association of Kastoria. Most of the skiers are mainly from Kastoria and the surrounding area.
Visitors who decide to visit the ski resort to enjoy their favorite winter sport will be compensated not only by the slopes, but also by the wonderful view of Lake Orestiada. The slopes are carved in a dense forest with a common starting point, served by the same lift. It also has a chalet, restaurant, snow bar café and parking, ski school with qualified instructors, ski-snowboard rentals, sledges.
SKI RESORT FEATURES
3 ski runs (1.000m – 1.400m – 1.850m),
1 Snowboard slope (1.000m),
beginners’ slope
1 sliding lift (plate)
1 baby lift
Verno is the natural border between the Prefectures of Kastoria and Florina and reaches the altitude of 2,128m. Rich flora and fauna and dense forests of oak and beech cover most of its part. The meadows will amaze you. Verno is the habitat of the brown bear and a shelter for many games. Verno has also a rich history as many fierce battles of the Greek civil war took place there. The monument of the victims of the Civil War is located at an altitude of 2,216 m and the view from upthere is breathtaking. At a lower altitude, at 1,800m lays the Vitsi Ski Center.
